Botox: What’s All The Hype About?

Botox is one of those anti-aging treatments that many of us think about getting but almost always assume that we have another 5, 10, 15 years before we actually need it.

This is probably due to the fact that Botox has largely been used by individuals in the older demographic age gap, with most seeking treatment in their late 30s, early 40s. But, more and more young people are asking about Botox as a way to prevent wrinkles before they even begin.
Let’s dive into why this trend is occurring and what the hype is that surrounds it.

WHAT IS BOTOX & HOW DOES IT WORK?

One of the most widely known injectables, Botox or Botulinum Toxin, is a regularly sought after treatment as part of both men and women’s beauty regimens. It is FDA-approved and is used mostly in the upper facial area to temporarily improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet. It is injected into the muscles around the eyes, eyebrows, and forehead to help the muscles relax, freezing them in place to prevent movement.
Without movement, the skin won’t fold and wrinkles won’t form.

“It is considered a “lunchtime” procedure because it is minimally-invasive, doesn’t cause any downtime, and individuals can continue with their day afterwards.”

WHY ARE MORE YOUNG INDIVIDUALS SEEKING BOTOX?

While the age group for Botox treatment used to be older individuals, doctors are seeing patients that are in their late 20s or early 30s seeking Botox treatment, not for current wrinkles and fine lines but as a way to prevent them from forming altogether.
It works well for younger individuals who have habits that would cause dynamic wrinkles to form, such as pursing one’s lips or furrowing one’s brow a lot in response to things like stress.

A trained physician can use Botox as a way to train the person’s facial muscles to no longer fall into these habits, reducing the odds that they will develop permanent wrinkles.

SO, WHAT’S THE SURROUNDING HYPE? PRE-JUVENATION.

The reason that Botox is such a popular treatment method is because it can reverse mild lines completely and prevent resting wrinkles from developing into permanent ones.

For individuals in the younger age groups, it means being able to allow the muscles to age more evenly, giving them a more youthful appearance well into their 30s, 40s, and 50s.

“Beyond this, more and more individuals are looking to prevent the signs of aging before they even begin, delaying them for as long as possible before needing to treat them.”

IS PREVENTATIVE BOTOX USE RIGHT FOR YOU?

The answer to this completely depends on your skin. Your physician is better equipped to answer this question as it heavily depends on what your skincare routine currently looks like. If you are already using sunscreen, retinol products, and moisturizers and don’t have any facial habits that would cause wrinkles to form, you may be completely fine to hold off for now.

If you are starting to notice the earliest signs of resting wrinkles, Botox may be a good wrinkle-preventing tool to add to your beauty regimen.
