Loving Your Nose: A Complete Guide to Rhinoplasty Treatment
A Guide

How Does Rhinoplasty Surgery Work?
There are two main types of rhinoplasty surgery, open and closed rhinoplasty. In an open rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes a small incision in the skin along the underside of the nose between the two nostrils, which allows them to get a better view of the nasal structure. The skin is lifted to get a full visual of the skeletal structure of the nose underneath, and all further incisions are done to the supporting framework of the nose; the cartilage, and bone.
Closed rhinoplasty can be done if the alterations needed to the nose are minor, and the nasal tip doesn’t need a significant adjustment. With a closed rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes incisions inside the nostrils, and while this limits the view of the underlying skeletal structure, it results in less visible scarring.
In both types of rhinoplasty surgeries, the bone may be reshaped, and the cartilage reduced to create a nose that is better suited to the rest of your face. After the surgery is performed, a splint will be placed on the nose to support healing during your recovery. This type of surgery can take anywhere from 1-3 hours unless it is complex, and general anesthesia is given.
What Are The Benefits of Rhinoplasty Surgery?
Rhinoplasty surgery can have a dramatic impact on someone’s appearance. While there are various reasons why someone may want this type of surgery, the most common benefits include the following:
- Boosting self-confidence by improving aesthetic appearance.
- Improve breathing ability due to nasal conditions.
- Repair abnormalities caused by trauma or accidents.
- Can widen or narrow the bridge of the nose to match facial structure.
- Fix overly downturned or upturned nasal tips.
- Can revise a rhinoplasty that’s gone wrong.
- May reduce snoring, increasing sleep quality.
- May reduce the recurrence of sinus troubles.
- Can address the impact that nasal birth defects have.
By improving the proportions of the nose, and matching it to the rest of one’s facial structure, the individual may feel like they finally look their best or may become more comfortable in their own skin. While this is a cosmetic desire, to enhance one’s appearance, the mental health benefits are tremendous. In addition to this, quality of life can be drastically improved if one is suffering from breathing issues due to structural abnormalities within the nose.
How Effective Is Rhinoplasty Surgery?
While rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult cosmetic surgeries, excellent surgical skill and strong nasal tissue with favorable healing responses, will ensure you receive the desired results that you’re looking for. Since this surgery is safe and more predictable than ever, it’s an effective option for obtaining a naturally, beautiful nose. It is important to remember that everyone heals differently and that realistic expectations are key to coming away with a successful result.
If you are considering rhinoplasty surgery, it is critical that you consult a highly qualified surgeon who is experienced in performing this type of surgery. Our surgeons here at Clark’s Institute for Aesthetics can help assess your individual needs and determine whether rhinoplasty is the right treatment option for you.
How Long Does It Last For?
Rhinoplasty surgery is a permanent procedure. This means that the results you get will last for your entire life. However, the shape of your nose may subtly change with age or may be altered drastically if you sustain facial trauma. If you are unhappy with the results of your surgery, you may be able to have revision surgery to correct any issues.
What Is The Recovery Time?
Recovery from rhinoplasty surgery typically takes about two weeks. During this time, you will need to avoid strenuous activity and protect your nose from injury. You will also need to sleep with your head elevated and use ice packs to reduce swelling. Most people can return to work and their normal activities after two weeks.
